Susanne Lundeng: Lecture and duo concert with Nils-Olav Johansen, presented by Scene Nord's Folk Music North department!
Susanne Lundeng's music is described as virtuoso fiddle playing, fragile songs, innovation and tradition, with northern Norwegian folk music as the anchor. At the same time, she is the person in our time with the best knowledge of traditional music in Nordland.
On this tour, Susanne will give lectures about traditional music in Nordland, play local melodies, and her own compositions together with Nils-Olav Johansen. This is a full evening of knowledge sharing and great musical experiences!
Susanne has been collecting, disseminating and further developing folk music for 40 years, and is one of Norway's most distinguished folk musicians. She became nationally known in the late 1980s, and the whole country became aware that folk music also exists in Northern Norway. She has received a number of awards and distinctions, and her major documentation publication "111 Nordlandsslåtter – hilsen Susanne Lundeng" (2015) received both the Folkelarmpris and the Spellemannpris.
Together with guitarist Nils-Olav Johansen, a playful and virtuoso interplay arises in a symbiosis of northern Norwegian folk music, own compositions, improvisation and songs. It can be light and cheerful, but at the same time it is stormy and moving, intense and raw.
