The Hamsun Centre has received valuable book collections and individual books over the years: Among others, the Hamsun collection from Kirsten Hedvig Rasmussen, the collection from the defunct Hamsun-Gesällschaft which has added a wealth of German material, the county library in Nordland, and translations and other book gifts from the Hamsun Society. We still receive offers of book donations, which we greatly appreciate.

Together, the gifts and purchases make up the Hamsun Library , a constantly growing specialist library. The books are now mostly catalogued and displayed on the shelves. Some of the shelves have been specially crafted to fit against crooked walls and angles.
