Guided tours and group visits
During the summer season, we offer The Hamsun Centre regular information sessions throughout the day. It is also possible to book a group tour or a tour outside of season and opening hours at both The Hamsun Centre and Knut Hamsun's Childhood Home Use the booking form below to send us a request.
All tours are offered in Norwegian and English.
Architecture Walk — The Hamsun Centre
Our guide takes you through the nooks and crannies of the building, into Hamsun's literature and upbringing on Hamarøy, and shows how architect Steven Holl created what he calls "a Hamsun figure in an architectural sense." Duration 30 min to 1 hour. Number of participants 15 to 25.
Guided tour — Knut Hamsun's Childhood Home
In the childhood home you will be greeted by a facilitator who invites you to join in storytelling around the table over a cup of coffee. The story is about Hamsun's journey from his birthplace in Gudbrandsdalen, his upbringing on Hamarøy and his teenage life in Nordland, until he took the step into the world at the age of nineteen to become a writer. Duration can be adjusted as needed. Number of participants: 10 to 25. Available May to September.
Prices
The Hamsun Centre
Group tours during opening hours cost NOK 150 per person, with a minimum of 15 paying participants. If the group is smaller, the fee is still for 15 people.
Outside opening hours, the base price is NOK 3,000 plus NOK 130 per person.
Knut Hamsun's Childhood Home
Group tours during opening hours cost NOK 70 per person, with a minimum of 10 paying participants.
Outside opening hours, the base price is NOK 2,500 plus NOK 70 per person.

Cancellation
Cancellations must be made no later than 3 days before the agreed visit. If you cancel after this, 50% of the agreed price will be charged. If you cancel within 24 hours, or do not show up, the full price will be charged.
