Colorful flower meadow with a dark modern building on a hill in the background, surrounded by green trees and mountains under a blue sky.

Visit The Hamsun Centre in Nobel Prize-winning author Knut Hamsun's childhood village – Hamarøy. The center is located in the middle of the landscape that inspired Hamsun to write world-famous books such as Pan, Market Crop and Landstrykere.

The center was designed by renowned American architect Steven Holl and is an architectural gem that combines modern design with a presence of the wild, northern Norwegian nature.

On The Hamsun Centre you are greeted by an exciting building that reflects Hamsun's literary universe, with its sharp lines, light and materials that subtly enhance the experience of the spectacular surroundings. Here you can immerse yourself in Hamsun's life and work, and gain a new understanding of his influence on both Norwegian and world literature.

The center houses a diverse collection of exhibitions that span Hamsun's writings – from his early novels to the more controversial aspects of his life and ideology. Through exciting exhibitions, interactive elements and a rich program of events, you will have the opportunity to explore Hamsun's universe in a completely new way.

In addition to the cultural experience, it offers The Hamsun Centre on an unforgettable nature experience. The area around the center is rich in both history and natural beauty, with dramatic fjords and mountains reflecting in the water. It is a place where literature, nature and architecture merge into a holistic experience. An experience that appeals to both art lovers and nature enthusiasts.
