Film screening with Veten film club
The Telegraphist won three Amanda Awards, in the categories Best Nordic Film, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. The film was also nominated for the Golden Bear – the main prize at the major film festival in Berlin. Erik Gustavson was the director, while the script by Lars Saabye Christensen was based on the novel Sværmere by Knut Hamsun.
The plot of The Telegraphist has been retold as follows: Telegraphist Rolandsen is an inventor. He dreams of becoming rich so he can marry Elise Mack, the daughter of the most powerful man in the place. But Mack wants Elise to have a more solid and wealthy husband than the flirtatious Rolandsen.
Knut Hamsun won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1920, and was adapted into a film at home early on. Markens grøde came out in 1921, while Pan followed the year after. Both were silent films. There was also Hårda viljor, which is a Swedish film adaptation of Sværmere from 1923.

Veten Film Club is located on Hamarøy in Nordland and their regular film screenings take place in the Adventure Hall here at The Hamsun Centre .
Anyone can become a member of the film club. Membership costs NOK 50 for those between 0 and 20 years of age, and NOK 100 for those 20 years of age or older. Membership lasts for six months from the date of purchase.
