Author and cultural historian

Ivar Roger Hansen (b. 1955) is a music and cultural historian, researcher and author. He has been department head at the National Library in Rana, general manager at the Petter Dass Museum, and director of the Ringve Music Museum.

Hansen has worked on music related to Hamsun's poetry, and has contributed to recreating the original film score for the silent film Markens Grøde (1921). In 2005, Hansen published the bibliography Det synger i mig en Tone , about music composed to Hamsun's texts. In 2010, the book Rolig Vildskap was published, about Hamsun's correspondence with the Danish author Hulda Lütken. 


It has been claimed that Hamsun lacks the ability to enter the world of the child seriously. In the lecture "The Caring Hamsun", Ivar Roger Hansen looks at examples of how Knut Hamsun expressed understanding, respect and commitment towards children and young people. In letters and in Hamsun's last book On Overgrown Paths . With a time span of more than 50 years, Hansen shows examples of Hamsun's commitment to young lives.
