THE WILD CHOIR

"I kneel and hold out my hands / even though I hear there No. / Take these flowers with Thanks for them / you decorated my road with. ("With Red Roses")»

1904

The Wild Choir (1904) is Hamsun's only collection of poems.

The collection consists of 61 poems, and both content and tone range widely from the lyrically beautiful and pantheistic "Skjærgårdsø" to the offensively, polemical "Himmelbrev til Byron" in which Hamsun asks the romantic poet to rectify the misery of modern times.

The collection also contains a number of love poems, including the passionate cycle "Feberdikte" which was written around the time of Hamsun and Bergljot Göpfert's first meetings.

The Wild Chorus also contains some light and humorous poems such as "Lina" and the well-known "Om Hundrede Aar er alting glemt".
