Professor and translator
Terence Cave (b. 1938) is a highly regarded British professor and literary scholar who received his doctorate from the University of Cambridge with a thesis on French Renaissance literature. Cave has published a number of books with studies in literature, literary history, poetics and philosophy, and has received numerous awards and honorary memberships for his work. He is currently Professor Emeritus at Oxford University and a visiting professor at a number of universities in and outside the UK.
Cave is an experienced translator and has in recent years collaborated with Tore Rem on new English translations of Hamsun's books Hunger and Pan . Why were new English translations needed? Why these books in particular? What is new about their translations? Rem and Cave will talk about their translation work and give us examples of challenges and solutions.
