ARTICLES 1889–1928
“The place you come from is always beautiful, it is the feeling of homeland in a small way, the feeling of home. (“Farmer”, 1918)”
1939
The book Articles 1889–1928 (1939) was published on the occasion of Hamsun's 80th birthday, and consists of a selection of fifteen articles and essays by Professor Francis Bull. The selection was approved by Hamsun, and the book is now considered Hamsun's official authorship.
The content of Bull's collection of articles can be sorted into two categories. There are articles on literature, such as the speech for the Wergeland anniversary (1908) and the famous essay "Fra det ubeviste sjeleliv" (1889). But there are also a number of articles and essays on what could be called nation-building themes, of which the two most famous contributions are "Et ord til oss" (1910) and "Festina lente" (1928).
