The road to Lofoten goes via Hamarøy

If you are going to experience Lofoten this summer, you should make a stop at Hamarøy on the way. Here you will find, among other things, The Hamsun Centre and Tranøy Lighthouse, in dramatic and beautiful surroundings.

A taste of Hamarøy – one day

Arrival in the morning. If you arrive between July 1st – August 9th, you can start the day at Knut Hamsun's Childhood Home (open every day 11:00 – 15:00. Address: Buvågveien 14). The rest of the day can be spent at The Hamsun Centre (open 10am – 6pm daily), where you can choose from several interesting and rewarding activities in the summer program , which is included in the entrance fee. Here you can learn more about the tower building's distinctive architecture, immerse yourself in Knut Hamsun's books and gain insight into his thoughts on America through the summer's lectures.

Have a better lunch at Kafé Sult .

The next stage takes you to the beautiful Tranøy Lighthouse , where you can start your visit with a guided tour of the lighthouse itself . At Tranøy Lighthouse you can also walk along the shore and enjoy the beautiful view of the Lofoten Wall. End the day with a nice dinner, and enjoy the night in one of the buildings to the sound of the waves and birdsong. Guiding, accommodation and dinner must be booked in advance.

If you are going to Lofoten the next day, it will take you to Skutvik and the ferry to Svolvær. It departs at 12:15. The crossing takes two hours and is called Norway's most beautiful ferry ride. If you have time for lunch, it is possible at Tranøy, Oppeid or Skutvik.

If you would like to extend your stay to several days, you can contact both The Hamsun Centre and Tranøy Lighthouse for suggestions for two- or multiple-day stays.

If you want tips for other experiences, sights, accommodation or places to eat, you can find them at opplev-hamaroy.no

Have a good trip!
