Markens Lille Grøde // Hålogland theatre

  • The Hamsun Centre 1464 Vestfjordveien Hamarøy, Nordland, 8294 Norway (map)

The Little Harvest of the Field - that's where I hear the news (before the fan)!

From the kitchen corner, humorist Kristian juggles his own interpretation of Hamsun's Nobel Prize-winning novel with anecdotes, readings and stories. Aided only by the kitchen utensils he has at hand.

Kristian Fr. Figenschow reflects Hamsun's Markens Grøde in northern Norwegian storytelling tradition and theatre history.

Knut Nærum was asked to write a play for Kristian Figenschow based on Markens Grøde. While Kristian was jubilant and working on the text, he discovered that “this book is the start of the North Norwegian storytelling tradition!” And not only that – he saw that Hamsun’s masterpiece also reflects the groundbreaking work that was carried out during the establishment of Hålogaland Teater! An actor in top form thus highlights important parts of our history in this humorous and entertaining performance.

In addition to characters from Markens Grøde, we meet figures brought to life by the storytellers who came after Hamsun: Zapffe, Dybwad, Arntzen and more.
